At the end of the 19th century watches with a winding button became increasingly popular.
Remontoir watches
So-called remontoir watches became increasingly popular aroud 1870. These were watches in which the separate key for winding the mechanism was replaced by a winding button, invented in 1842 by Adrien Philippe. The winding button also serves for adjusting the watch to the right time.
