The Museum en Archief van Tijdmeetkunde (Museum and Archives for Chronometry) was founded by the mathematician Henri Christiaan Faddegon (1875-1930) at the initiative of the Bond van Horlogemakers (Union of Clockmakers). Between 1909 and 1948 it was housed in the Municipal Museum of Amsterdam and run by the curator J. Prinsen. In 1953, the collection was merged with that of the Goud- en Zilvermuseum, Keur en Ambacht and until 1970 it was housed in the Catharijne Convent in Utrecht. The curator of the Klokkenmuseum, G.H. Faddegon, catalogued the collection in 1955. Many of the most important objects are on loan from the Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap (Royal Antiquarian Society) in Amsterdam. Since 1978, the Dutch Gold, Silver and Clock Museum is housed in a former army barracks at the Oude Haven in Schoonhoven. De clock room with an international survey of clocks was redesigned in 2004. This shows clocks and watches from various regions in The Netherlands as well as some exceptional foreign clocks, such as turret clocks (Vabrie, Remmen, Volger), table clocks (Van Ceulen, Tegelbergh), long case clocks (Bramer, Hermelinck), wall clocks, pendules (Van Spanje) and neck- and pocket watches (Vibrandi, Weylandt, Ninaber van Eyben). A special place is reserved for the electrical clocks (De Jong). In 2000 the Verberne Collection from the previous Wekkermuseum (Alarmclocks Museum) in Meijel, consisting of approximately 2000 objects was incorporated in the museum. Furthermore the museum has a large study collection and a horological library. Every year the museum mounts various temporary exhibitions, like: "Twee eeuwen uurwerken 1657-1857"(1967), "Klokken uit de Gouden Eeuw" (1972), "Klokken, Zilver, Sieraden 1900-1930"(1976), "Elektrische tijdaanwijzing"(1984), "Klokkenkleedjes" (2001-02); "Tijd onderweg: Rijtuighorloges uit particulier bezit"(2002), "Koninklijke klokken uit gouden tijden"(2003) and "Met Franse Slag: Comtoiseklokken van 1680 tot 1930"(2004). Apart from exhibition catalogues incidentally the museum publishes the journal "Museumtijdschrift". For recent information: www.ngzkm.nl Source: G.H.
